Brooklyn, NY (March 22th, 2021) – Saint Marks Place, a new residential development from Avdoo & Partners Development and designed by INC Architecture & Design in Brooklyn’s Boerum Hill neighborhood, announced today a partnership with Arts Gowanus to showcase the artistic talents within the community. Under the curation of Executive Director Johnny Thornton and Associate Curator Clémence Mailly, this collaboration features the works of local artists throughout the Saint Marks Place sales gallery, which neighbors the development. The partnership highlights Gowanus and its surrounding neighborhoods as a creative enclave while showcasing the community to prospective buyers of Saint Marks Place, which recently launched residential sales this January.

The 6,000-square-foot sales gallery provides potential buyers exclusive previews of the development, allowing visitors to experience the vision for the lifestyle at Saint Marks Place. The sales gallery places an additional emphasis on the evolution and beautification of the 4th Avenue corridor where the development is located. Saint Marks Place is designed with intention, echoing the scale and facade of brownstones nearby seamlessly fitting into its surroundings. The partnership with Arts Gowanus further immerses Saint Marks Place within its community—a desired locale positioned at a crossroads of many popular neighborhoods.

“Our mission at Arts Gowanus is to support, promote, and advocate for local artists in order to create a sustainable arts community in Brooklyn. Our curatorial service places artwork by local Brooklyn artists into the businesses, galleries, and developments in Brooklyn in order to create more opportunities and visibility for our local creative community” said Johnny Thornton, Executive Director of Arts Gowanus. “This kind of partnership reaffirms the importance of the local art community which has deep roots in this neighborhood. These partnerships are vital to the visibility of Gowanus artists, specifically in a year when the arts community has been hit so hard. The venue gives artists the opportunity to showcase their work to potential buyers at a time when it is difficult to visit galleries and museums. This partnership is a great model and emphasizes the importance of local businesses and residents patronizing the artists in the community. There is so much talent in Gowanus to be discovered.”

“The Saint Marks Place sales gallery represents an investment in our community,” said developer Shlomi Avdoo, founder of Avdoo & Partners Development. “We not only are able to showcase our thoughtfully designed residences at Saint Marks Place, but also, by sourcing works for the space from local artists, we are able to amplify the creative and close-knit nature of our community.”

Among the 21 artworks currently showcased are:

● “Theo”, A portrait composed of three separate photographs physically woven together by hand into a single composite artwork by David Samuel Stern placed at the entrance of the sales gallery.
● Two pieces by artist Natale Adgnot from her series “Drawings in 3D,” which she began while living in Japan. Adgnot has presented solo exhibitions in New York and Tokyo, though she currently lives and works out of Brooklyn.
● Three ink renderings by Ai Campbell, who was born in Osaka, Japan.
● A diptych entitled, “Spaces Fill” by Sonjie Feliciano Solomon.
● Four encaustic works by Amy Weil, which she created by scraping, adding, and fusing wax.
● Conceptual artist, Hannah Robinett, focuses on order through grids and beauty in imperfections. She is showing a wood panel with resin and a diptych panel overlaid with paper.
● Multidisciplinary artist Michael Watson, who works with found objects and natural materials, is showing two painted wood installations from his “Refraction” series.
● The two separate living room units highlight Susana Aldanondo's abstract expressionist acrylic paintings, which are inspired by her jazz and tango practice. In the other room, Liza Domingues's acrylic paintings feature bold and bright colors through geometric patterns.

All works available on our Artsy Page
